Betsy Burson, ARM

Betsy Burson, ARMBetsy entered the safety profession 25 years ago in order to help clients meet their safety goals:  to enhance worker safety, productivity and profitability.  Her philosophy is to “meet the client where they are”: to provide guidance and superb resources to meet their goals.

As “accidents” almost always could be prevented by the injured employee, she has developed a specialty in thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to help clients zero into maximum impact solutions.  This typically includes motivational training at the management and/or employee level.

Her experience has been shaped by work on behalf of clients, large and small, as funded by insurance companies dedicated to controlling risk and enhancing customer relations.  As a result, she has inspected foundries as large as a city block, massive construction operations, and rappelled down dirigible hangars. From retail to manufacturing, she has brought her toolbox to show businesses how the twin goals of safety and productivity are aligned.

For seven years, she also served as the Products Liability Prevention Specialist for CIGNA insurance, where she assisted manufacturers against possible legal action in regards to design, quality, marketing, and service.

Betsy is an endless learner and trainer. She earned her MS in Safety from USC and Associate in Risk Management certification.  She most recently completed the OSHA 501 program, authorizing her to train on behalf of OSHA.

She herself has developed and delivered classes in OSHA standards, Back Injury Prevention, Ergonomics, Fall Prevention, Security Liability ranging from 3 days to 20 minutes.  She has spoken at large conferences, including University of Madison Product Safety Symposium, BrightStar, and most recently spoke at the Distinguished Speaker Program at Sonoma Mountain Business Program. The key she seeks will unlock the barriers to employees taking shortcuts and employers leadership of safety.  Motivating and encouraging clients with good information and tools is her goal.
